It may be that the most surprising thing about today's developments is the fact that it appears the Ken Lay might actually suffere some punishment as a result of his arrogant and callous behavior. This is what has been conspicuously lacking from the life of his good friend President Bush.

We are still working in a kind of imaginary way to get Bush impeached. What I mean by that is the tendency of people who want him impeached and can't understand why behavior as egregious as his hasn't resulted in a life prison term at any of about a dozen jurisdictions to just presume that he will be if they mention it politely to influential friends in other places needs to be examined and discarded. The public says it doesn't like Bush or the"job" he's done in office, but they don't seem driven by this dislike to so much as ask that he be bounced from the people's White House. This tedious tiring task, I think, is what we need to work on, but whether we have the time or energy for it is a real good question.
