Conservative v Reactionary, part 2

"Conservative" also suggests "conservation", which carries the cachet of environmental preservationism, even at the cost of greater wealth. But of course the reality is just the opposite: the conservative justice that forbids the protection of environmental values as an unconstitutional "taking" is protecting wealth and the value of individual self-aggrandizement, not to say rapacity. Here it is instead the environment that bears the cost.
